I also encourage group time with games that help the little ones become acquainted with each other and learn to cultivate relationships. Assistant 2.5-3’s: Mr. Kent
Preschool Floater: Ms. Deepa
Hello! My name is Emily Baker, and I will be your child’s Dragonfly teacher here at St. John’s. I recently relocated from central Illinois to Salt Lake City in order to be with my boyfriend. We had been long distance for over a year, and then this fantastic opportunity at St. John’s came to be! Before moving, I spent nearly 4.5 years at a Montessori-based private preschool in Mahomet, IL. There, I spent almost 2 years of that time as an assistant PK teacher, and the rest of the time as a PK head teacher. Our PK classes were blended 3-5 year-old classes.
Long before all of this, I grew up the daughter of a Christian Church preaching minister and a bank teller. My father and mother are still back in Illinois, having just celebrated our 18th anniversary with our congregation. I graduated from Fisher Senior High School in 2002, and I attended Lincoln Christian College (now University) for five years. My course of study there was Intercultural Studies and Teaching English as a Second Language. I also did take some Early Childhood/Child Development courses during my college years.
Along with my nearly 4.5 years’ experience at the Mahomet school, I have also worked with children through other various paths: babysitting, tutoring, youth group, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and weeks of summer camp. I love working with children! Being able to teach them and watching them learn and grow is one of my strongest passions in life. I believe in a good foundation of manners/etiquette and respect. I really enjoy Montessori and Reggio methods because I feel they are a strong reinforcement of these qualities of good character.
I look forward to meeting each of you and getting to know your children as my students! This school year should be so much fun. I am always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. I want to work alongside you for the well-being of your child and his or her education and social development. I hope you have a fabulous year.
